*ALTARS OF THE HOLY ONE

Milky breath of the buffalo
On starry plains
Fireflies dance in the night

A woman groans with birth pangs
Of transformation

Tree people crucified
Yet still they stand

Flowers sing silent hallelujahs
Kaleidoscopes of color and scent

Tall grass prairie of our mother
Whispers her lullabies

Monarch butterflies traverse continents
Going home, gathering in one tree
* *An old nun kneels on earth
Kisses a dying Calcutta slum child
Mother Teresa sees Jesus looking back
Into her eyes

Altars of the Holy One
Here, there, everywhere

Earth is one vast cathedral
Glowing, alive

Altars glowing by day and night
Altars in barren desert and deep snow
Burning with Being
