Dear Colleagues,

In response to Lee Early's question: will the Executive Director

have the authority to hire and fire staff? Will he/she have budget

discretion? I guess that's two questions, but, when you think about

it, it's really one.

We have been working on defining the Executive Director position by naming
the tasks of both teams and the Executive Director using a system called
RACI. The R stands for the "responsible party or the one that does the
action and the A stands for the Accountable party or the one that has the
yes/no authority. In our plan the Executive Director is the Accountable
person in both activities (hiring/firing and budgeting) and the team manager
is the responsible person. We currently operate with 3 program teams and a
Managers Roundtable made up of 3 team mangers, finance manager and fund
raising manger along with the Executive Director. Hope this helps!
