Hi, recently I saw a quote via e-mail by Bonhoeffer about national flags
in churches. It caught my attention so hard that the next Sunday I
looked and sure enough, there was a US flag in mine. The quote had
harsh things to say about where the allegence of the church belonged
and who "owned" the congregation. I'm sorry I can't be more clear than
that but when I read it, it was like a 2x4 along side the head. I have
searched my files and can't find the reference. Does anybody out there
know the one I mean? I want to share it with someone who wrote:

>I now move to my July 4th experience. I knew ahead of time that it would be difficult with the holiday falling on a Sunday. The day began with my arrival at church greeted by a driveway lined with American flags, and a large flag draped horizontally on the front of the church. Maybe I am overreacting, but the placement of the flag on property has historically be a symbol of declaring sovereignty over the location where it is flown.

Bonhoeffer seems appropriate to share with him.
Thanks for any help.
