In 1944 in Mrs. Hudson's fourth grade class' presidential debate, I led
the charge against that old devil FDR.
What the Republicans will never understand is that people can change.
THeinz has grown up in her political attitudes. People can do that. Forty
years ago I was a flaming Republican; this week I ordered 5,000
Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers and as soon as they arrive I will set about
getting them pasted on cars. People change. Few Republicans understand
that this can happen.
That the Heinz foundation may have supported some wacky projects would
not surprise me. If so, it was Republican money at the time; not
Democratic. THeinz is a recent convert as I understand it. But Republicans
won't understand the subtlety.
