We too have volunteered to host a movie discussion group in the local
church that we are in the process of joining in Santa Rosa
We are interested in movies that point toward transformation of characters
in the movie as well as community transformation. Several of these on my
list are

Spitfire Grill
Whalerider
Song Catcher

although the latter is not that much on community transformation.

I also want to show the more recent of the Bonhoeffer documentarys. This is
the full length feature by Dohlmeier that came out in
2003 vs Bonhoeffer: Agent of Change that came out in 2000 on PBS. I
thought the Dohlmeier film was better particularly in the coverage of the
time before the war when Bonhoeffer taught at the Seminary.

Jan McGuire put out a list of films toward the end of 2002 where she
classified the films according to various themes like - Transformation,
Love, Zeal, Hope, Faith, Meaning, Connections, Yearning, Shadow, etc
Possibly she might put that list back up on the Dialoge again with any
additions she might recommend.

> We started a monthly movie discussion group at my local church last
month. As our initial choice, we watched "Marvin's Room" - a 1996 movie
with lots of tragedy and comedy. We had 10 folks show up and I used the
suggested questions in "The Art of Focused Conversation" published by ICA
Canada to facilitate the conversation.. The questions worked quite well
with the group. I think all who attended will probably be back and probably
some others who couldn't make it that night.

recommend for a group like this? The group is quite progressive in their
thinking and theologically "liberal" but most have not had RS1.

> I'd appreciate any suggestions anyone may have - to me individually or to
the whole list serve if you think others may be interested in your
suggestions. Of course, if you have any other suggestions for facilitating
a group like this, please add those too.
