[Dialogue] Another good night for America and the globe

Margaret,
Sanctification, huh? Spell that out, please.
Alexandra Kerry did a fine spirit spin last night on how her father
priested her in her funk:
"Years later, when I was driving back to college with him, brooding as
only a nineteen-year-old can, my father told me to look outside. He
said, "Ali, this is a beautiful day. Feel the sun. Look at the country
you live in." The passion of his words makes me remember them, still,
ten years later. He said: "I know men your exact age, who thought they
had the same future you have. Whose families were never born, who never
again walked on American soil. They don't feel this sun. Ali," he said.
"If there's something you don't like, something that needs to be
changed, change it. But never, ever give up. Remember that you are
alive. And that you are an American. Those two things make you the
luckiest girl in the world."

And I liked John Kerry's salute . . . comments on the flag . . . wearing
the flag pin . . . his Lincoln quote:
"I don't wear my own faith on my sleeve. But faith has given me values
and hope to live by, from Vietnam to this day, from Sunday to Sunday. I
don't want to claim that God is on our side. As Abraham Lincoln told us,
I want to pray humbly that we are on God's side."
. . . and his boat quote:
"I learned a lot about these values on that gunboat patrolling the
Mekong Delta with young Americans who came from places as different as
Iowa and Oregon, Arkansas, Florida and California. No one cared where
we went to school. No one cared about our race or our backgrounds. We
were literally all in the same boat."

I have been cut off from my e-mail for several days, but I can't agree
more about the opening night of the DNC. I did not think (hope) that in
my lifetime I would here someone from a national platform willing to
talk about sanctification or appropriately distinguish moral behaviour
and moralism. You go girl!
Obama was more magnificent that I had imagined. He showed up on my
screen just weeks ago when I heard the story of Jan Schakowsky(sp?),
D-IL, being initially blocked from entering a meeting at the White
House because she was wearing a button supporting Osama bin Laden.
Didn't Sun Tsu have some suggestions about knowing your enemy?
