Closure of the School Of The Americas has been tried. (It has now changed its
name to something else, but I can't remember what.) Over Ten thousand people
demonstrated at Fort Benning in 2002. Several were people we know and are
close to. One of those, a 68 year old woman from Sarasota, dared to step over the
demarcation line. She is now serving a three month prison sentence here in FL
for that act. Faith Fippinger, our friend and a retired school teacher, also
went to Iraq before the invasion, as a human shield. She will also have to
serve a prison sentence for that; time, place and duration still to be
announced. We are very privileged to know people like Faith, and colleagues Ken and
Barb Smith who also protested at Fort Benning. Faith would appreciate your
thoughts and prayers. She is a dear, lovely and very brave lady.
