Colleagues,
I was going to keep quiet for awhile, but decided to put my oar in. I am very much in agreement with most of what I've seen on the listserve in the last 48 hours, and especially with Roger and Jan, who I remember from past courses, the Town Meeting campaign of '76, etc. I have no idea what will happen, but the one thing we can't do is give up. It may be that an unpopular war and scandals at home will bring this administration down, like Nixon's, or it may need some major realignments and reorganization of the opposition(s), as Roger says. I hate to think of all the lives that are going to be lost among our own troops, the rest of the so-called Coalition, and the Iraqi people, and who knows where else in the world, before this is resolved, but it will be, and we have to be a part of it.
If you haven't listened to that Bruce Springsteen song that became the Kerry campaign anthem lately, go back and crank it up. It's on the Born in the USA album, and the refrain is "No retreat, no surrender!"
Grace and Peace,
Steve Rhea
