We have lost one of the truly greats among us. Most on this list serve
know something of Mark and Jean's time in the Order, their work in the
religious houses and in Egypt. After Mark's heart attack, he had to
live the rest of his life on medicines that required continuous
regulation. It was a debilitating disease; most put their feet up and
sigh, not Mark. He and Jean worked tirelessly in the local church,
setting up ministries for the poor, taking up the cause of homosexuals
and other justice issues. They befriended and supported Masai people
who had fled to the U.S. for their lives, and Mark and Jean took up the
cause of eco-tourism, traveling to Africa, to spread awareness of what
is happening on the planet. Mark never stopped. In our language, he
gave his life for all.

Wanda and I will miss those Seattle visits when we flew in from the hot
tropics of Asia and parked ourselves in Mark and Jean's cottage for a
few days of R&R. The walks in the cool air, the evening suppers and
long chats into the night will not leave our memories. All our best to
Jean and the children, to Marion and the rest of the family.

George and Wanda Holcombe
