[Dialogue] Informal poll

Kerry doesn't have more support than Bush in Nevada at all. We watched
the 1st debate with likeminded (to us) Democrats. We decided we'd rather
watch with independents & undecideds to get the real flavor of what they
think.
Dan is the only Democrat in his office and some of them are real
Christian Right folks. We get a couple of polling calls every day/night,
some from organizations that have called us previously. I think they are
testing the water after each debate. I have been told by the Democratic
campaign workers that Nevada is the only state that is working the
entire Democratic National Committee "plan" in its entirety. Hope it
works well.
We've worked hard to register new voters. Both Edwardses have spoken at
the University in Reno, & Bush & Kerry in Las Vegas, possibly more than
once. Don't know much about what's going down in LV; the difference
between Reno & LV is like the difference both in distance and culture
between Los Angeles & San Francisco. But Nevada is very conservative.
I'm hoping that there is a "stealth wave" of new young Democrats that
will actually get out and vote.
What's your take on this, Early?

From Wisconsin, definitely a swing state. We're been travelling in
Northern Wisconsin over the past two days. Overheard today in a small
coffee shop Merrill, Wi a couple of women discussing the election. One
said
to the other she was definitely not going to vote for Bush this time
around. She didn't like being lied to. She told of hearing a nurse
friend
of hers who has treated returning vets. The seriousness of the injuries
is
horrible. One returning injured soldier ,when asked about the situation
in
Iraq said it is much worse that we're being told and many of the service
men and women just want to come home. The change of heart of this woman
is
hopeful. Perhaps people are listening. The are tons of "This is
Bush/Cheney
Country" on the edges of the cornfields and it seems like Bush or Cheney
are in the state every two minutes.
