In Australia we have this syndrome "I'm all right Jack!" It operated well during our recernt elerctions here.  Our economy is going along fine so to hell with Aphgans, Iranis, Palestinians, refugees, the ernvironment, so long as I am OK.  I had this fond hope that at least half of us had learned to do better with big marches for no war, Aboriginal reconciliation etc.  Pretty disappointing to put it mildly.

You in the US could well be facing the same syndrome.  I dont know what you can do about it.  Time is short.  But it might take some sort of massive appeal for a little bit of unselfishness before the day.
