FYI -- From our Presbytery.

In a message dated 9/22/2004 2:22:42 PM Eastern Daylight Time,
center at tfpby.org writes:

There is a person or persons calling individuals and organizations, using
someone’s name that is familiar to you. The person calls collect and says that
they are calling from Canada and have been mugged and are in the hospital or
otherwise stranded. They claim their return ticket and all of their
identity was taken (our caller stated his nose was broken, explaining why his voice
was unrecognizable). They will give you very little information and will say
that you cannot call them back because the phones are not working properly.
In hopes of having you wire-transfer funds, they will give you a password
and tell you to use it when calling a toll free number at American Express to
coordinate arrangements between that company and Western Union.
Don’t do it! American Express says it is bogus and is a scam that has been
going on for the last 1 1/2 years.
