[Dialogue] Brian Stanfield

My memory of Brian, which grounded for me the depth of his spirit struggle & wisdom, was the summer when we made the leap beyond Christianity. I think the lecture was called transchristianity. What now is part of my understanding of a global and historical awareness of all religions created by humans was then a leap of faith like Indiana Jones made as he sought the chalice. At the same time that I was enticed to go beyond where my imagination had ever gone, I was terrified to go so far at one leap!! Brian was supposed to do the lecture that night. He never showed up. Slicker stepped in and did the lecture. Brian, who was one of the most profound spirits I ever encountered, struggled, too, with accepting this paradigm shift - to the point of walking away from an assignment that was pivotal. I don't think of any other "first teacher" who walked the streets of Uptown struggling with what he couldn't yest articulate or share with us. I have always loved Brian a little more than most for his profound humanity. The Courage to Lead is one of my most often read books - and one that I give away to those who ask, "Who are you, really?" My prayers are with you both - and my candles are now lit for both of you.
Love, Jean Long in Denver

My time with Brian was in India. He nurtured the leadership of the New Village Movement staff. They became spirit leadership under his wings.

My candle is lit and my prayers are with you both.
