Brian and Jeanette,
I tried to send this to the Stanfield address, but it wouldn't go so I
am sending it to the whole Dialogue list...and hope someone gets it to
them.
I've been thinking of you both a lot since we heard of Brian's bump in
the middle of the road. During worship yesterday it occurred to me that
when I think of either of you...but particularly Brian...I think of
written and spoken words that shed spirit on all who hear or read. My
prayers for your good health focus on that possibility that many more
words will come from your mouth and pen for years to come.

We have Walter Bruggeman, a renowned Old Testament scholar, here at our
church for a series of four lectures this week. Last night was the
first lecture...a focus on Jeremiah ... and then what that text can say
for the church today in a post 9/11 world. He pushed on the necessity
to change the way we do things...and to shift people's imaginations to
see the world differently...to understand open possibility. We have so
many of the radical right and their "blue prints" for life here in the
US that it is crazy. He objected strongly to that...but also to the
liberal emphasis on just social action. He was calling for there to be
more processing of imagination.
I'm looking forward to the next three lectures. We have an amendment to
the Kansas Constitution on the ballot tomorrow. It is calling for the
ban on gay/lesbian marriages or civil unions. Unfortunately it will
probably pass. (our country has gone nuts on this subject). Someone
asked Bruggeman about it last night and he just stated that it is an
evil amendment. We need holiness in our community...care for all God's
people. Revolutionary thought for some.
We'll continue to pray for your health, but if you are interested in
all this stuff I may write again and let you know another arm of
thinking that isn't in the news.
I also remember your gracious hospitality when you took me to lunch in
Toronto...much fun.

Much love,
Priscilla
