Dick,

I listed to one of these guys on C-Span this morning. He used phrases like
they're for a "culture of life" and the rest of us are pushing a "culture of
death". They're also making up negative phrases bout the Judiaciary. This
made me think that we need to create powerful images/phrases that carry our
vision.

Why aren't the Democrats and others coining the phrase "Culture of
Responsible Freedom" and blasting it across the waves -- and calling the others pushing
the "Culture of Government Intrusion". Yes we have to be as crass as they.
We've got to us -- manipulate language better than they!! We also need a
revolutionary like MLK.

I just heard Jim Wallace speaking in Minneapolis on the role of the Church in
the world.

Referring to the decisions affecting the social fabric of our world, he
suggested that many of our leaders go around wetting their fingers to test which
way the wind is blowing. Wallace suggests that it is not the task of the
church to change the leaders, but rather to change the wind. That is where the
future is created. Our "christian right" brothers and sisters seem to be
handling the lions share of wind changing these days.

So, what does this mean for people of faith when confronted with political
campaigns like we have recently experienced. Does this mean that Faithful
America, EPPN, MoveOn, JRLC, MICAH, and the myriad other progressive political
action groups are the wrong tactic?

Where have we seen the wind changed in our experience? Woman' Suffrage,
Civil Rights, Drunk Driving...?

What were the wind changing tactics?

What were the blocking forces?

How were they dealt with?

What was the role of the Church?

Any thoughts?
