[Dialogue] Alternet: Alone In America

Alternet has been around for a while and there are others and certainly
a brave one. With the mainline media being co-opted by the
corporations, right-wing "Chrisitianity", the god-nation or nation-god
(the heart of the Roman Empire), I'm wondering if we can provide a list
of those alter-news sites. A good number are linked by Alternet. I've
not seen a list anywhere, perhaps I've missed it.

Also, is there anyone out there that can educate us on Pod-Casts. I
understand this is becoming an area for counter-news and items excluded
from our ears and eyes.

With Pat Robertson ("Christian" Broadcaster) now calling for
assisanation of another country's leader, and mixing the old communist
threat with muslim terrorism, one can see the right, religious and
otherwise, strenghtening their voice for fear and violence as control
agents for the "Empire's agenda." There are also beginning to be local
subtle calls for violence against those who oppose or are for peace,
while at the same time saying they are for "free speech." Currently
I'm hearing strong messages that people for peace can not honor the
soldiers; they aide the enemy if they oppose the president's policy;
blood sacrifice is necessary for freedom to exist; freedom is not free,
control and violence is necessary for peace; you cannot talk with your
enemies.

The Vietnam protestors were inhibited by FBI and other arms of the
government, but I don't believe that those for the war were as strongly
organized or being stirred up as now. Neither did the communist scare
tactics of the 50's have the base of radicalized citizens as seem to be
now.

A little of what is going on in Crawford is trickling to Austin. We've
had a number of peace prayer vigils, many more than the news has
covered, but it has not acquired a voice, and I do not see the youth.
Right now they seem to be old Vietnam protestors.

All the best
