George,
I'm sure that someone out there is more knowledgeable than I, but
I've found it extremely simple. Go to
http://www.apple.com/podcasting/. You can download iTunes for
Windows or Apple. Instructions on that page tell you how to
subscribe through iTunes to podcasts. You can listen to them on your
computer but the wonderful part is you can download them to an mp3
player and listen to them anywhere, anytime. There are other ways to
do it, but it is against my religion to do things the hard way.
[The downside of going to the apple web site is you might get seduced
by the ease of using their products, and the freedom from spyware and
viruses. Don't say you weren't warned.]
I don't know of any listing of alternative news podcasts. On the
Media from WYNC is very good. Now I don't have to schedule my
workouts at 4 on Saturdays any more, which is when they are broadcast
in Cleveland. The Cleveland City Club started podcasting about 6 wks
ago and has some excellent speakers, www.cityclub.org.
And I owe thanks to someone on this list for telling me about
alternet RSS feeds. Thanks whoever you are.
Karl
