We are celebrating the election of Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf as President of Liberia.  An Alumna of Harvard University, former V.P. of Citicorp in Chicago, UNDP Director of Development for all of Africa until 1996, Ms. Johnson-Sirleaf is the 'right stuff' at this moment of Liberia's tragic history over the last 25 years especially.  

Bob had the privilege of teaching her in her senior year at the College of West Africa where she received her high school education.  He knew that she was ready for any vocation to which she would dedicate her life.  

May President Johnson-Sirleaf and her people live in peace as she is inaugurated in January and seeks to lead her country as it 'rises from the ashes' which is all they have to work with at the present time.  The people of Liberia still hope against hope that the sweat of their brows and their infinite trust in the Mystery will bring them through these days and out into a new day, - realizing, in the words of their National Anthem: "Mighty be our powers" and "This glorious Land of Liberty will long be ours."

May you also experience peace and power in your places of significant engagement.  Bob Griffin, in Iowa, where it is 18 degrees F. and the snow [3-4" deep] is brilliant on the grass and fields.
