Carlos I am Bob Hanson, OE 77-82 mostly in Japan, from the famous Milw
region or metro I cannot remember, I am now pastor of a small county parish
in Xmas tree/lake country in EC Wisconsin. I live about 25 miles south of
there in the woods. With your base in NO, I was wondering if you could help
me and my community of Faith who would like to come to New Orleans to help
in some way for a week or two in the New Year. We have had one of our
members who has been down there for 10 days and it has transformed her life.
I have had all the Red Cross training for national disasters and had to
refuse a national assignment a month or so ago because of health reasons at
the time...I know there are Lutheran Congregations in the city that were hit
very hard, my daughter attended and graduated from Dillard and we are
concerned about that university as well and its recovery. If you do not have
this information, maybe you know of someone we can contact, going through
the large disaster organization has not brought much practically... my wife
is a parish nurse and chaplain, and we have some gifted folks up here in the
woods. Thanks for your witness of care....peace Koshin Bob Hanson

Dear Colleagues

In the few days after the collapse of levees following Hurricane Katrina,
this list had many messages about the situation in the middle Gulf Coast.
There has been very little if anything recently. This is not my attempt at
guilt tripping but only pointing out that even among the most sensitive and
socially responsible people on the planet time eclipses attention spans. The
media moves on quickly. Thankfully CNN has maintained a presence here but
even they as is normal are responding more to the new hot buttons. The
conversations in the Wedgeblade Dialogue, of late, have covered many serious
global issues and I for one am glad that we continue to want to proactively
influence the course of history. However, with an administration that finds
every excuse to cut spending and the with the competition for remaining
federal dollars, the willingness of Congress to do what it takes for our
region is at best weak. If those of you in or from the US could periodically
contact all of your state's congressional delegations urging that New
Orleans and the surrounding area not be forgotten, I do believe it would
help.

Thanks in advance
