Shundahai Network
Jay loved the Nevada desert and was committed to finding ways of
protecting it. Jay attended several gatherings and nonviolent
demonstrations at the Nevada Test Site. Shundahai Network is a
nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking the nuclear chain by
building alliances with indigenous communities and environmental,
peace and human rights movements. The Network seeks to abolish all
nuclear weapons and bring an end to nuclear testing. It advocates
phasing out nuclear energy and ending the transportation and dumping
of nuclear waste. The Network promotes the principles of
Environmental Justice and strives to insure that indigenous voices
are heard in the movement to protect their traditional lands and
influence U.S. nuclear and environmental policies. All of Shundahai's
campaigns and events incorporate the values of community building,
education, spiritual ceremonies and nonviolent direct action.

Jay Zahrt Freed Memorial Education Fund
Trish writes: "One of our long term plans included the completion of
my Master's degree in Public Health. Jay and I both thought it would
be smart to take advantage of the deeply-discounted tuition available
to faculty and staff of the university, and I was accepted into the
MPH program at the University of Nevada, Reno in January, 2003. My
thesis project is to develop and co-instruct a college course on the
many causes of obesity. I will study the effect of this course on
student's negative attitudes toward obese persons.

In 2002, Jay pursued a job that would provide a stable income and
benefits to supplement my income as I reduced my working hours to
part time, so I could attend school part time. We knew my position as
Lead Nutritionist for the Nevada site of the Women's Health
Initiative research study would end in early 2005-my last day was set
for January 13, 2005. At that point, Jay's salary would cover most of
our expenses, with savings used as a supplement while I completed the
last three semesters of graduate school (January 2005 to May 2006).

Jay's sudden death made the thought of continuing my education not
only unimportant, but a financial frivolity. Yet, Heidi insisted I
not lose sight of the important goals and plans that Jay and I shared
for the future. This is an opportunity to not only help fulfill
Jay's plan, but also his wishes. Jay loved to take care of me, and
would have wanted to realize this goal so we could move on to the
next one-we had so many dreams together."

This Memorial Education Fund will cover expenses relating to the
completion of Trish Freed's Master's degree including such expenses
as tuition, books, internet access for research, printing supplies,
reference materials, thesis publication, and graduation fees. This
contribution is not tax deductible.

For the Jay Zahrt Freed Memorial Education Fund,
-- checks can be made out to Heidi Zahrt, Administrator, 949 Barton
Ave., Camarillo, CA 93010; memo: fbo (for benefit of) Trish Freed.
--Or, transfer funds to Washington Mutual, Account 098-356-3620.
Thank you very much.
