A most helpful book which Meyers is using now in a six week pre easter  
series held for 1 1/2 hours on Thursday evenings.  Attendance is high,  especially 
from non members.  The book, which I have just got into reading,  is quite 
fascinating.  BEYOND THE PASSION,  Rethinking the Death and  Life of Jesus.  
 
It sets the work of Jesus into a clear context of the times;  Pax  Romano,  
which is a most helpful way of looking at our own empire  influence.   Jesus 
was POLITICAL.  Rome got rid of such  people  rather quickly.   The 1st chapter 
makes plain just  why.   I suggest it for anyone active in a local
