Dear David,
This is good news. You've been in my thoughts and prayers though I
haven't conveyed that to you. (Ah me - the things we don't do that we
would do.) I'm pleased the girls are so close to you. We continue to
ponder on whether we should look to moving back to the Chicago/St. Louis
area where Mark and Nathan seem to be quite firmly settled. But our
friends and the beauty of this area, along with a living situation that
keeps us aware of the planet on which we live, create a strong tension
and no such decision has been made to date.

I'm glad you've found a church community you can be part of in the midst
of a State that is on a strange and bizarre path, or so it seems to us
from a distance.

We, along with Gordon and Roxana Harper and the Lanphear's (along with a
few other people!, recently heard Spong speak. It prompted us to pick up
our shelf copy of Why the Church Must Change... It is so good to hear
someone speaking out clearly and emphatically about the situation of the
church. I know about the stack of books waiting for attention. Harry
Potter #6 has current priority but I have to wait until Jim finishes as
he got to it first!

We had our Women's gathering 2 weeks ago. Perhaps you know we've been at
a wonderful retreat center on Hood Canal for 3 years now. We loved being
at George Lawson's place on Lopez Island but here they outdo themselves
at serving gourmet, healthy, beautifully presented food that we don't
have to cook! We do miss Joyce and Claudia though they continue to be
present through our memories of them.

Jim and I both hold you in our thoughts, grateful for the time we've
spent together on the way.

Love, Dorothea

John, I bought the book some weeks back and have it on top of all my
other
"must read" ones. I did get through the first chapter and find it
fascinating.
BUT got into Spong's latest, THE SINS OF SCRIPTURE which our FREE
THINKERS
SSchool class will be reading in two weeks. NOW, that one will blow
the lid
off for lots of people. I hear TIME Mag even has a page on it but I
haven't
yet seen that one.

O yes, my doctor has interpreted a recent report from a SCAN done last
week
in most favorable terms. Not healing but maybe a move toward remission.
I
told him that lots of people were going to give God the credit and he
responded,
" It is all right to give God Credit."

I may get through some of those 20 books stacked up on my "read list"
yet.
David Reese
