Outrageous! The most vulnerable among us are in special danger. Take a couple of minutes and call. Sorry this is last-minute - just came to me. My senators have already voted against it. How about yours? Somebody needs to care about these basic structures.

STOP THE BUDGET RECONCILIATION ACT!

The National Council of Churches urges you to call your

Members of Congress regarding the 2005 Budget Reconciliation Act

on October 17 and 18.

Please call this toll-free number - 1-800-426-8073, provided by the American Friends Service Committee. You will be connected to the Capitol Switchboard. Ask to speak to one of the senators from your state.

When the senator's phone is answered, say:

"My name is ________________ and I live in [your town/city]. I would like Senator [name] to oppose $50 billion in cuts to TANF, Medicaid, Food Stamps, Student Loans, and other vital services, and to oppose $70 billion in more tax cuts."

"The budget must be a moral document providing health care, education, employment, housing, and other services that families need - it is immoral to balance the budget on the backs of the people most in need in our society. "

Use the toll-free number again and call your other senator and your representative. If the lines are busy, please be patient and try again. Or, dial their direct lines (not toll-free) -you can find the numbers at www.senate.gov and www.house.gov.

Remember - Call your Senators and Representative on October 17 or 18.

Tell them these cuts are unthinkable!
