[Dialogue] Katrina and colleagues

Jo,

+Jean Watts Is probably in Key Biscayne by now at her son Warner's home
after staying in Pensacola for a couple of nights.

+Carol Fleischman is with someone in Montgomery, Alabama. I've not heard
directly from her but she contacted Marilyn Crocker by phone a couple of
days ago.

+Carlos Z. writes that he and Kathy are in Alexandria, LA and their children
are safe in other places.

+Erness Wright-Irvin, a ToP facilitator and IAF member evacuated to Houston
with her brother, daughter, and 87-yr.old mother; They were in a motel, but
had to leave there today; everything is full and money running out.
(Multiply that by the thousands of situations) Jeff Banning put the word to
the SFN facilitators & had one response from someone who had space for them
in Tyler TX. Don't know if they've connected or not at this time. Waiting to
hear.

+Subject: Emergency housing drive at www.hurricanehousing.org. Pass it on.
It’s for both searchers and providers.

+I've heard nothing but requests for addresses & whereabouts of Carl Ennis
who lives in Long Beach, Miss.

+I'll pass on news as I get it. Knowing I’m from New Orleans, some folks are
contacting me to hear about others.

+Also, Carole Rylander, IAF & ToP trainer has forwarded a request from the
North Texas Food Bank (her client) for donations of money. I passed it on to
our Northern Nevada Food Bank and they replied that American's Second
Harvest is coordinating a national donation and response to the disaster
areas whose own food bank agencies have been wiped out.
www.secondharvest.org Our local Food Bank is sending a press release to
the papers here about this.

+Also just got word that Hendrix College, (I’m an alum – it’s a Methodist
college in Conway, Arkansas) is mobilizing to accept college student who
were enrolled in other colleges in the hurricane area; are searching for
temp housing for families of their students from the area, etc. I hope other
colleges will do the same.

+I expect that more and more of this sort of thing will begin to emerge.
However, there was a big gap in immediate water & food for those people
trapped in New Orleans yet.

+I also heard from Dr. Gilbert Brenson-Lazan [gbl at amauta.org] head of the
Global Facilitators Service Corps about what we (IAF) are doing through
them. His response:

++Thanks so much, Pat. We are flooded with inquiries and are just beginning
to ++organize virtual and F2F support with local networks and organizations.
We do ++NOT want to rush in with well-meaning volunteers at this stage (or
in any other). ++When a local group asks for volunteer help, I will notify
all those in the funnel that ++might be interested in helping. Glad to hear
I can count on you also.

And so it goes

Pat

Thank you, Carlos. I'm glad you are all safe.

If there is anything we can do to help, let us know.

Take care,

Jo
