Friend of mine thru business.....

Dear Friends,
I knew my son Chad had won a writing contest for a trip to New Orleans, but
I did not know when he was going
but after several days of no contact
phone
or email, I began to worry about his whereabouts
It appears my son has been
trapped in New Orleans and just returned to his base in Virginia today
He
has gone without food and water for more than 36 hours. He said he can’t
begin to describe the shear horror of the experience. Once he was back in
his own apartment he said he had a complete melt-down. He said that the
heat and destruction was incredible and he does not know how he survived.
He and 2 other guys from his ship left the hotel Tuesday after the staff and
security disappeared in the night
he was at a major hotel off Bourbon
Street
they had to break out of the hotel as the staff had chain the doors
shut
.They wandered the streets for 2 days trying to avoid looters and
trying to find food and water. They stumbled across a restaurant that was
open, but not operational and meet two local black men who had just returned
from Los Angeles
the men took the three complete strangers in and gave them
a place to stay for the night in one of the poorest areas in the city and
then the next morning drove them for about 4 hours to where they were able
to rent a car to get to Houston. It turns out that shortly after they left
the home of the two men, there was another break in the levy and the entire
area was under 20 feet of water and their house was flooded
they all would
have been stuck there, or worse, if they hadn’t left when they did.

I am just very thankful for his safe return and for the generosity of
strangers
.In return, I would encourage each and everyone to contribute what
they can to the Red Cross Relief efforts
https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp
I know the images on the
news show the worst side of humanity
but as my son can attest, that even in
the worst of times the good in others shine
lets us repay that good in our
generosity towards strangers.

Thank You,
