The original email that started this thread came from Zahrts. Only
they know what they meant by "filter" - I have a private email to
them asking. I have no idea what that "filter" email was about. So my
request is to end this topic right here with this message. If I find
out something that needs to be shared I'll let you all know.

Harry Wainwright, David Dunn, and I watch the list closely and are
happy to hear of any problems anyone is having. Please send those to
us privately and we'll do our best to help. As a general rule sending
emails about list problems to the whole list results in confusion and
should be avoided. Think of this as a gentle "facilitation nudge" to
the group. The idea is that the technical list discussion is noise
that distracts from the main list discussion. Harry, David, and I
consider ourselves assigned to "wash the dishes", and we don't want
you to have to discuss washing the dishes at dinner. <grin!>

That's correct. The list is setup to translate html (the language
used for web pages) to plain text, so messages that use html should
come through OK. Attachments, particularly large attachments, cause
trouble and so are stripped. Occasionally you see blank emails
posted. This happens because the email is encoded in a way the list
can't handle. If this happens to you (you send a message to the list
that comes through blank) please send me or Harry the message exactly
as you sent it to the list. We'll help you get it posted properly,
and by working with us you will help us configure the list in the
most helpful way.

If you can configure your email to send plain text you will never go
wrong. (We have many different email programs and levels of
experience represented on the list, so it's challenging, but by and
large it is working well.)

I'd also like to let everyone know that Len Hockley and I are
experimenting with some other web-based software to enable group
writing. This is not to replace the mailing list but to augment it.
Gordon Harper suggested we look into a way to use the web to document
ICA/OE history. That's what we're investigating. Looks very
promising, but it will take us a little while. When we've farther
along I'll put out a request for volunteers to help.

Tim
