This list is set up the way it is and people need to learn how to operate it
if they want to participate. We can't assume; we need to learn. I think I
have this idea of putting text directly in the message planted firmly enough
in my brain to remember it.
Plain text, however, is not any sort of higher good. There is no moral high
ground here and no stars will be placed in you crown if you use it
successfully every time.
More to the point; it is no longer the norm. It was the norm and by far the
best option up 'till about 1998 - 2000 or so. After that, most of the
programs used for email handle html and plain text with equal agility.
Plain text is the simpler option, but because it is not the norm, insisting
on it puts this list out of phase with others. I have enough memory cells
to remember the difference between one list and another and how they
function, but it seems like extra work that's not necessary.
I'd urge us to bring our practices into alignment with the way ordinary
listservs work to reduce the confusion and enhance participation.
