Lighten up Jack! You seemed to have missed the point of the joke. humor is used here to 
point to a reality beyond the joke itself. Or that is to say the fallacies behind the ideology of 
the far right republican establishment that has gripped the United States Which among other 
things is responsible for deaths of over 100,000 in Iraq. JWN probably would have laughed 
and then turned around and launched a tirade about about r2epublicanism.
