Kay, et al.,
Last night at the 70th birthday party of a friend (one of my youngest,
Rachel's, friend's Mom) - I spoke with another mother of one of the girls
there. She had one of the same kinds of strokes as Hubert on December 27th.
Except for tiring more easily and then having trouble with her speech, she
is quite recovered! I am imagining the same our crusty ole curmudgeon (meant
lovingly!).

Subject: Hubert story Fulkerson Stroke
Progress and request prayers
Hubert on May 8th he had an Ischemic stroke.
The tests they performed included MRIs, CAT Scans, Ultra Sounds, and Blood
work. From the tests, they found no signs of clots or blocked blood
passageways, so they diagnosed him with having had an Ischemic stroke. We
learned that an Ischemic stroke is a recoverable type, because it is caused
by a lack of blood to the brain rather than a hemorrhage. However, as a
result of his stoke is unable to move his right arm and leg. He also has
trouble communicating back and only has a consistent four-word vocabulary,
although he appears oriented with his environment and understands some of
the things that he is asked. For example, if you ask him his name, he
responds, "Yes." He is able to feed himself using his left hand and he
responds to touch. For instance, if you move his legs he changes his facial
expressions, and if you hold his hand he follows your movements and smiles.
Now Aug 2006 He has improved great deal and we are amassing each day with
process. He can speak sentences, & ask questions which are all
understandable. He can slowing move his right arm to his nose and hold and
release items. With assistance from the physical therapist, he walked
between the two parallel bars and a few times with a brace on his rt. knee
and uses a walker.
He are praying that concisely walking, and be using move of his own right
leg to initiate the walking. With assistance he can transfer from bed to
wheel chair, etc.
He only has until end of Aug to get help with the physical & occupational
therapist, since medicare writes: 100 days for skilled care.
He is a Capri care center in Phoenix. I you want to sent card mail to: Kay
Fulkerson
402 East Las Palmaritas, Phoenix, AZ 85020
Please pray that he can walk and use the bathroom / toilet by himself. We
also pray, he would like to graduate to more independence, and get out of
the nursing home.
