[Dialogue] News from Kawangwari

As I understand it, Kabira, the community mentioned in the report is a part
of the larger (huge humungous - growing) Kawangware community. I think it
was one of the ³stakes² when we did the original gridding. At some point,
(late 70¹s early 80¹s) I believe our work was focused with this part of
the community. I remember the word as Kabiro, but that could easily be the
way my western ears heard Kiswahilli. The photos look like my memories.
In any case, it is really nice to see positive reports on what¹s happening
in Africa. We¹re quite excited about a project that ICA Canada¹s Listen to
the Drumming initiative has become involved with in a Maasi community in the
Rift Valley called Ilngwesi. There are 4 young volunteers working with this
community; the first one we are aware of that has asked for the whole
community to be tested for HIV/AIDS. Read more at
