Dear Colleagues,
Thea and I have had the privilege of visiting Africa this year (2006)
three times.
The outcome of these visits is an ongoing HIV-AIDS testing project in
Ilngwesi, near Mount Kenya and an agreement to assist Simeon Shitemi,
the long term chairman of ICA Kenya's board to get the organization back
on its feet programmatically.
There are also explorations underway in Rwanda towards the establishment
of work there in the fields of reconciliation, early childhood education
(with Elise Packard) and economic development.
Shitemi sent us back to Canada in early December from our most recent
trip armed with letters of invitation to whomsoever might be interested
in spending a few months (3-6?) working alongside the ICA Kenya team to
reestablish the organization and its programmatic vitality. Money is
of course scarce so preference will be given to any who can pay their
own way for such an adventure. ICA Japan has project work underway in
Western Kenya that seems to be going very well and then there is the
work that ICA Canada has undertaken in Ilngwesi. Currently there are 4
volunteers from North America working on that latter project. We are
also working closely with Louise Singleton who has been, along with
colleagues, doing tremendous work in the HIV-AIDS field in Kenya for 3
years at least.
If there is interest in this possibility, I shall be happy to discuss by
email or by telephone.
Background with ICA methods and approaches is a must for this effort.
If there are people you know of, who are not on this list who might be
interested, feel free to forward this email
Best regards for the New Year.
