Wayne,

How amazing!

Reading it makes my heart soar like a hawk, so I can imagine your heart is
still soaring. Thank you for this wonderful living story. It certainly is a
wonderfully satisfying answer to the question "Did we make a lasting
difference?"

 

Mohammad Yasin was one of the "blue shirts" we trained in Indonesia. A
village boy with a big heart and vision, and a calm, Javanese presence and a
had worker. . Dan & I were so surprised when we first heard that he had
taken and ICA assignment in El Bayad project. And we were so humble and
proud when we heard that he stayed and became a leader there, marrying a
lovely woman there. He sent us a picture of his two beautiful daughters and
himself via email. I recently got a message from him in Basara.

 

Yesterday, I stopped to eat lunch at a little Indo-Chinese restaurant in Old
Sacramento, CA. I was teaching a GFM course there and went in to get
take-out. It turned out the "Indo" part was Indonesia. The counter clerk was
a young man from Malang, Java. We had fun communicating while the food was
prepared. And what wonderful soto ayam it was.

I sent this as a witness to the Earthrise group. I think there are some on
this list that are not in that group and I want people to see this.   If
you're on both lists, I added a couple things.  If there are others who need
to see it, pass it on.

September 2006  is ICA MENA's 30th birthday. We ought to find a way to
celebrate it. If you write and send me your favorite Bayad story, I'll
compile them. I don't know what we'll do with them, but that can unfold.
You probably have other ideas.
