Wayne,
I read your wonderful travel journal twice, and I was so delighted to learn
that you had worked on the CDA start-up in Bayad with my brother-in-law, Nabil
Migalli. I forwarded your e-mail to him and added today's request for stories.
Jo may have told you that Nabil is married to Richard's sister,
Anne-Marie--24 years this January. In 1978, Nabil was a social worker living
in Philly. Richard had just moved from DC and was living at the Philadelphia
RH, and A-M was visiting him. The three of them drove to Charlottesville, NY
for the beginning of the HDP Consult, and the rest is history. Every year in
the fall they spend 2-3 weeks in Egypt, but I don't know if Nabil has ever gone
back to Bayad for a visit. I'll bet he will want to now.
As a social worker, Nabil has been very pro-active and creative
professionally for years in Manchester, NH (the Chagnon's hometown) working
with, and on behalf of, people with developmental disabilities. He has also
been very active with national Arab-American associations and is now on a major
national board. When former Attorney Gen'l Ramsey Clark and Bishop Gumbleton
went to Iraq many years ago to protest the sanctions, Nabil went with them. Of
all my in-laws, he's the one I most enjoy spending time with when we are in NH,
hearing about what he's into. His passion for his clients' independence is
wonderfully practical, and his involvement in meaningful causes, an inspiration.
His e-mail is Migalli at comcast.net, and I'm sure he would love to hear from you.
My best to you and Jo, and thanks again for sharing the excitement of your
trip with us.
