Wayne and all,

I really enjoyed the Bayad report and recognized many of the names,
especially Farah Hanna and Abdul Hamid. I have heard that Shaker
Gergis was still around. I also wonder about Said Riskala. When Susan
gets home I'll show her your report, and I'm sure she will recognize
other names.

One question - is there any special complication visiting, given bad
relations between the US and the arab world generally? Of course I
ask as one who was in Bayad when Sadat was assassinated (I was there
from 1978 through 1982), and at that time I felt safe going anywhere
at any time of the day or night. The transition to Mubarak was so
smooth there didn't seem to be any special issue, however chaotic it
seemed to those outside. However we are definitely in different times
today, which is why I asked.

Tim
