Thanks for sending this along.  First, just a bit of personal history.  I graduated with a degree in Geology in 1970 and fairly immediately set off for Australia, where I was assigned, in order, the Sydney House, the Perth House, helped found the Darwin House, did a side trip to Oombulgurri (looking for diamond-bearing deposits), and eventually wound up back in Chicago in 1974.  

This is by way of saying that there are a lot of us in the oil business who know that all the denial of global warning and the coming energy crisis and its effects on society in general and suburbia in particular are being denied to our peril by most of government, business and industry.  Kunstler mentions the production peak in 1970.  For the original articulation of this, go to the net and search for "M. King Hubbert" or "Hubbert's Peak".  Hubbert was the guy who first emperically showed what would happen as a result of absolute dependance on hydrocarbon fuels.
