Dear friends

Last year I tried sending, via the Dialogue, a 46-page paper I'd written
called "From Prefects to SRCs - a thirty-year journey". It was too big to
be a Dialogue attachment, and some people requested I send it directly to
them.

Tim Wegner, meanwhile, has placed it at
http:www.wedgeblade.net/downloads/Prefects-to-SRCs.doc

So it can be retrieved there!

I approached the Senior Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia
(SSABSA) last year about a retired teacher (me!) writing a Mark III version
of his Student Leadership Course from the 1980s. I 1985 Mark II had become
the state template for schools to adapt, so I knew I had some historical
credibility, and some people around now might remember me.

Mark III has yet to be touched - but other things have happened! [I
remember the effort we put into a Town Meeting campaign in Pennsylvania in
1979-80 - and we ended up with a Human Development Training School!]

My contact at SSABSA put me in touch with someone at the Department of
Education and Childrens Services (DECS) - the state education department.
Vivienne was a project officer for a Student Voice project, and knew nothing
of the history I was able to blind her with. A 6-page paper ended up as the
46-page opus I've mentioned - for a reasonable $500 fee that she was able to
authorise!

The paper is getting circulated here and there, and many people are agreeing
with my proposal to expand it into a book (and training manual) ad get MEd
recognition for it. Funny about that, I had the same idea! Even PASTA
(Professional Association of SRC Teachers and Advisors) in NSW are
suggesting that it's time to start seriously documenting and reflecting on
this work.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd appreciate any information, anecdotes, analysis, experience etc about
student government, student councils, etc elsewhere. At the moment most of
my impressions come from the Degrassi series, and "Jenny and Judy's Class
Reunion" movies.

Best wishes

Frank Bremner
