Question is: where does Jenny stand on this (Jenny, my daughter, and Winston my son in law have roots in Nicaragua)
They sent 2 other articles yesterday. This week is supposed to be a silent period before the elections, one of the articles reported statements by representatives of the embassy that if Daniel Ortega wins, US policy would be totally rethought and one thing that will happen will be an effort to prevent Nicaraguans living or working in the US from sending money back to family. The other article listed places in the international press where the election is being reported. -- quite a few.
One of the things I remember from visiting Nicaragua is the story of how Daniel and the Sandanistas were in power and the people voted him out for someone else. It was a point of pride that they changed their government.
It is discouraging to me how much our government seems to need to interfere with other governments. Having been the "last remaining super power" only made this unattractive part of us come out more. This is discouraging to Jenny and Winston as well and also shocking a bit, how little notice or comment is made in US "media".
