[Dialogue] Pat Stewart

Ann,
 
Thank you for your kind letter.  It certainly is true that Pat and I  shared 
many creative times together -- in particular designing and delivering  the 
CSTS -- the Church School Training Institute during the Vance's days in San  
Francisco, 1974-78 at the San Francisco House.  She was a wonderful  educator and 
determined person and we had a good meeting of the minds, since our  styles 
were so similar.
 
For me, the best part of being assigned to San Francisco was working with  
Bob and Pat.  One thing I've always remembered from Bob was to "tell the  
stories".  He said that no matter how good a sermon was, people leave  remembering 
mostly the stories -- and from those, then, they remember  the point they were 
trying to convey.  In my facilitation practice,  especially if we are asked to 
do training (such as customer service etc.)   I still try to tell some 
unforgettable stories in my lectures to make my  points -- and I always think of Bob 
when I prepare.   
 
Bob and I also enjoyed visiting with Pat and Bob during their volunteer  
sojourn in the Everglades whereby they worked in the information center along  
Alligator Alley -- that was in the early 90s, when they lived in their RV  and 
with their computer in tow, Pat was continuing to create training programs  for 
Methodist Church laity. They were always out to experience the world  and do 
good.
 
I'm glad that Pat's illness was short.  Please share our condolences  to Bob 
and the rest of the family.  I'm sure you had a great celebration of  Pat's 
life today.
