Memorandum
To: ICA Employees, Colleagues and Friends of the ICA Archives

Re: Status of the ICA Archives

Dear ICA Archive Stakeholders,

Although I have been quite busy in my first two weeks on the job as
the new Interim Executive Director of the ICA, the status of the
archives has never been far from my mind.

After discussions with many of you, the Board of Directors, and
hearing the “buzz” throughout the world about the status of the
extraordinary number of documents housed in the basement of 4750 N.
Sheridan, it is abundantly clear to me the importance of these
resources. Clearly, the accumulation of written documents, taped
interviews and historical records reflects 40 years of efforts and
passion of hundreds of men, women and families, work that has
affected thousands of lives in countries, towns and villages
throughout the world. Additionally, beyond the seen and unseen
historical impact of the ICA’s trans-global work, these resources no
doubt contain many important clues to the directions we will be
taking in the near future.

For the reasons of honoring this organization’s tremendous past and
for (invigorating/creating/unearthing) new and exciting dimensions
implied in the ICA’s historic work, I want to assure you personally
that I and the Board are dedicated to preserving the treasures within
the Archives of the Institute of Cultural Affairs.

Thank you,

Kirk Harris, Ph.D.
Executive Director - ICA
