I think they should find a library that would appreciate having this collection.

Subject: [Dialogue] CORRECTED LETTER FROM KIRK HARRIS

Dear Colleagues,

Somehow a draft version of the letter from Kirk Harris was passed on to me to get onto the dialogue.
The following is a corrected version.

Bruce

Memorandum
To: ICA Employees, Colleagues and Friends of the ICA Archives

From: Kirk Harris, Executive Director

Date: 11/22/06

Re: Status of the ICA Archives

Dear ICA Archive Stakeholders,

Although I have been quite busy in my first two weeks on the job as the new Interim Executive Director of the ICA, the status of the archives has never been far from my mind.

After discussions with many of you, the Board of Directors, and hearing the “buzz” throughout the world about the status of the extraordinary number of documents housed in the basement of 4750 N. Sheridan, it is abundantly clear to me the importance of these resources. Clearly, the accumulation of written documents, taped interviews and historical records reflects 40 years of efforts and passion of hundreds of men, women and families, work that has affected thousands of lives in countries, towns and villages throughout the world. Additionally, beyond the seen and unseen historical impact of the ICA’s trans-global work, these resources no doubt contain many important clues to the directions we will be taking in the near future. As an educator, I understand the importance of knowing and honoring our history, if we are to create our future.

For the reasons of honoring this organization’s tremendous past and for invigorating new and exciting dimensions of ICA’s historic work, I want to give you my personal assurance that I and the Board are dedicated to preserving the treasures within the Archives of the Institute of Cultural Affairs.

In service,

Kirk Harris, J.D., Ph.D. Interim Executive Director - ICA
