Larry, Cynthia and others,

Yes.

I think that 'reduction in force' is par for the course these days in
America. It's an example of the tyranny of the economic. The US auto
industry is laying off tens of thousands. It's also an example of the
collapse of the cultural. Boards of directors are asking the US government
to take over insolvent pension funds so that the corporations are no longer
under an obligation to their employees' long-term economic wellbeing. The
govern rolls over and plays dead.

The ICA has been hemorrhaging cash and assets for some years. The
organization would have ended the 2006 fiscal year in the red and so the
Board decided to lay off the most expensive employees. I can't speak to the
long-term transformation strategy behind that choice.
