Thanks, Jann,
It's nice to have someone 'dialogue'. I'm still worried about the racists
across the nation, and particularly in the South ("Dixiecrats" who turned
Republican after the signing of the Civil Rights Act. After Lyndon Johnson
signed the document, people asked him why he was so sad. He said something like
-- the Democratic party had just lost (its power? for the next 50 years.

I'm behind on e-mail, but wanted to answer Cynthia's query. Last week's
cover story in TIME magazine contained this, which really resonated with me:
 "The
current Obama mania is reminiscent of the Colin Powell mania in 1995[ ...]
Powell and Obama ... are black people who - like Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey
and
Michael Jordan - seem to have an iconic power over the American imagination
because they transcend racial stereotypes. 'It's all about gratitude,' says
essayist Shelby Steel ...'White people are just thrilled when a prominent
black
person comes along and doesn't rub their noses in racial guilt. White
people
just go crazy over people like that.'"

Yes, Cynthia, I do think America would vote for him.

Blessings,
Jann McGuire
