Dear all,

Well, I have arrived in Cameroon! On the final leg of my trip we took a
slight detour through Douala and down to Kinshasa before landing in Yaounde`!
This made the trip very long, but it wasn't too bad. My bicycle and guitar
survived the trip, but my bag did not. And I've just discovered that a) there is
only one flight a week from Brussels to Yaounde` b) I will be going to Bamenda
(about 6 hours away from Yaounde`) before the next flight arrives! Everyone
will be quite bored with me wearing the same outfit, I am sure, but at least I
have two shirts with me! Each day I remember something else I would really
like to have that is in my bag.

I am here in Yaounde` until Friday morning, getting a bit of basic
in-country training and meeting the other volunteers. There are 15 of us, and there
are 5 who will be in the Bamenda area, which will be nice when I wanted to
connect with familiar faces.

For those who haven't received previous messages about what I am doing here
-- I found a two year volunteer positon through an excellent organization, VSO
(Voluntary Service Overseas) which is UK-based, but has a Canadian office.
Check them out at _www.vsocan.org_ (http://www.vsocan.org/) I will be working
in the Presbyterian Rural Training Center in Fonta which is about a 20
minute drive from Bamenda, in the Northwest Province of Cameroon. I am going there
to do and train people in fundraising. There is another volunteer, a man from
the Netherlands, who is also going to be at PRTC, training folks in forestry
practices. You can check out PRTC also at _www.prtcfonta.org _
(http://www.prtcfonta.org/)

So, Friday morning we move up to Bamenda for some more in-country training
(more specific to the culture and environment there) and then I will be in my
placement a few days after that. Then, hopefully someday, I will receive my
bag!

Take care.

   Rev. Tracy E. Longacre
