Thanks, Marshall. I'm so glad you're back on the Dialogue! More mellow,
perhaps, but not letting us get by with much, I see.
Speaking of mellow, my most intimate spiritual group and I have been
meditating on deep reconciliation and non-violence with the intention of healing the
planet. We are doing so under the tutelage of a Tibetan Buddhist teacher. He
says that the coming year (beginning with spring equinox last month) holds
great potential for profound transformation for Planet Earth. I am amazed at the
changes in myself, just from noticing when I want to respond to anything -
any little thing - with drama. For instance, I can no longer watch violence on
tv, including the pundits who speak rudely to one another.
This seems obvious, as one who grew up in the church, but our teacher says we
are to use kind, caring speech; to love all people we meet. (Little petty
judgements are violent.) Think of famous/accomplished people with compassion
and humility. See them doing acts of service to the planet. Visualize
political leaders using their power for non-violence. Write them. Phone them.
Visualize yourself as a functioning part of the planetary solution.
I was a little overwhelmed by someone who wrote the list wanting political
strategy. Sorry I can't give a better reference, but evidently I was
overwhelmed enough to delete the inquiry. But the meditation and visualization I can do
in the midst of taking care of myself, Fred, and my 94-year-old mother.
So let's see Bush and Rove and Cheney before us, engulfed in a dark cloud.
On the in-breath bring the dark cloud into the fiery furnace of the heart. Let
it dissolve in love. On the out-breath send out white light to them. It
can't hurt. (I also pray that our polarizing politics in this country will be
transformed, and that congress will have the courage to really bring our troops
home.)
Blessings,
