Dear Martin
ICA's Town Meeting methods of the " 75 -78 evolved out of something called PARISH LEADERSHIP COLLEGIUM. It was a fascinating process including "walking the Parish" and griding it which gave intimate knowledge of the people and the area. I became involved with ICA near the end of the PLC's. In many instances, the membership and the church locatioin were very different, so the Parish boundaries where decided on the basis of the Church's geography. This worked out well in Salt Lake,Utah and Denver, Colorado where the Church was located in an inner city and the congregation scattered to the burbs. In both of these cities, programs flourished for sometime and in Denver, 2 are still in being.
Perhaps some of the folks whose memories go back further than mine, can be of more help.

Do any of our colleagues in the US have any experience of "congregation-based
community organizing"?
My partner Derek is involved with the Faith Network for Manchester where we live here
in the UK, and it is exploring new ways to increase the influence of faith communities and
others in decision-making processes. The mechanism of "congregation-based
community organizing" (CCBO) is being used and Greg Galluzzo, Director of the
Gamaliel Foundation in the US, is supporting the initiative.
If any of you have any experience of working or supporting such a way of working, Derek
would be grateful to hear of it, and any advantages or pitfalls. Have any of the ICA ToP
or other tools been used?
many thanks,
Martin
