In this stone throwing contest, of which all of us are guilty, let him or
her who is not arrogant throw the first stone, or something like that.

The fact is, we are responsible to God for the World, not simply for
keeping my delicate little hands clean.

Darrell replies:
My, my, my, but how arrogance does abound! To think that the Creator of
the Cosmos and this lovely planet delivered unto us, a mottly little crew,
the responsibility to repair the errors of the Demiurge. The problem of the
second integrity is that it reflects arrogance. Oh, yes, arrogance. "Born
to forge out of the darkest night signs of abundant life!" We were going
into the world and make the world like us. Look at us and ask if that is
the way the world should be. I doubt it. That is Bushian thinking.
Perhaps the call is for us to grow beyond compassion and all its motives
to fix other people, to make them like us. For me, I have given up the vain
attempt to fix other people. I will content myself to go tomorrow morning
to the kitchen of Loaves and Fishes and help prepare a meal for some hungry
homeless folks. And I will do it without guilt.
