[Dialogue] The Uphill Struggle

I apologize for sending a personal message by mistake to this whole group.
I am fully aware of the attack machine which Karl Rove, Grover Norquist and
others will use to attack any Democratic candidate. They have already been
attacking Hillary Clinton for some time with some success, but not enough to
keep her from high poll ratings. She has more experiencing dealing with
these attacks than any other candidate.
Hillary Clinton is not my first choice, but I think she may well become our
Democratic candidate and as I said, she will handily beat any of the
Republican candidates, given their checkered history and divided support
from the Conservative base. It is possible that the Democrats will have
chosen a candidate by next spring, while the Republicans may struggle
through to their convention with no selected candidate. I think the largest
but improbable obstacle the Democratic candidate will face may be if NY
mayor Bloomberg runs as a third party candidate with an effect to that which
Ralph Nader produced in 2000. Dave Thomas

The confusion lies in your perception of the republican political machine
developed by Richard Viguerie and Lee Atwater in the 70s and 80s and now
controlled by their offspring Karl Rove. There is nothing peat nothing that
he and those around him are not willing to do or say to win. Hillary is the
best thing that they could ever hope for. She was crooked lawyer in Arkansas
- Whitewater all of Ken Starr fantasies will dominate the airwaves. Whisper
campaigns on the internet that she is a closet lesbian, etc. etc. etc.
Another thing your do not know is that rove runs a operation that daily
sends outs faxes and emails to several lists. One is to editorial page
writers, Another is to talk show motor mouths on radio an cable like
Hannity, O'Rielly, and Lmbough with his daily talking points Another one
consists of hard core republican true believers who write to editors and
call in to talk shows, They also have their own email lists to folks outside
their party circle.
Rove came to Alabama in 1992 and succeeded in electing a republican majority
in our Supreme Court and out appellate courts.
The legacy of his efforts in the 90s is a well trained group of political
operatives that have run some of the nastiest campaigns at the state and
local levels than I could ever imagined. Go read Bush's Brain or The
Architect and you will understand how he works.
Rove turns his candidate's weaknesses in opportunities and turns his
opponents strengths into opportunities of attack like the vets who attacked
Kerry.
The only person that can win is someone without all the negatives and
personal political history like
Hillary. Someone willing to speak back to this kind of machine and even use
the same kinds of methods to attack.
Your naiveté about Hillary's chance is astounding.
David
PS I don't know much about sweat lodges but I live in the lower part of
Alabama and my air conditioner has just died so I'm sweating enough, thank
you.

You are so confused. Hillary will easily beat any of the Republican
candidates. Against a Republican, she will get a huge majority among women
voters who are a majority among voters.
I am interested in going to Gresham Wisconsin (just south of the Menominee
Reservation) just before or after our canoe trip - over one day and back the
next. Would you be willing to accompany me and join us in a sweat lodge?.
Quite an experience. Religion the way it was in America before the
Christians came. Sitting Owl aka Dave Thomas
