One of my first projects I was assigned to after I joined the order was to
create a brochure about an Education Colloquy. I did this and had both Donna
McClesky and Joe Slicker look it over before it went to the print shop.

After printing about 2,000 brochures I think it was Bill Bailey who
telephoned me from the print shop, asking -- "Cynthia what is a ColloQUOY?" I nearly
died. I learned that you have to do your own proofreading and not depend on
others.

Mea Culpa, Carlos! And let me tell you, in my life as a bleary-eyed
proofreader after 3 am, I myself have not been immune from the most awful
typographical errors.

When I was the 12 year old founding editor of my neighborhood scandal sheet,
the little girl across the street was named Virginia. Of course in the paper
it came out "Vagina." I thought I'd never live that down! Humiliating! Of
course in this day and age that would become her nickname and she'd be teased
without mercy.

The good news is that the misspelling of Joe Mathews' sacred name was
accidentally perpetrated by 3 bleary-eyed 70 year old granny types, not the
20-somethings in the Kemper Building who never heard of him. So at least they know
better and have moved to fix the problem.

Luckily some of us surviving geezers are occasionally still sharp eyed
enough to blow the whistle on each other when necessary. And that, boys and girls,
is the value of colleagiality. So I'm givin' the grannies a pass this time.
Next time...watch out!

I'm very fond of you all.

Marshall

When I was working in the print shop and Wayne alias Marshall Jones was
doing the excellent work of editing, layout and whatever other things emanated
from his creative genius, I would have been radically offended at his
attitudinal approach in snipping at errors. Now it just brings back fond memories.

Thanks
