Hello colleagues,

Betty Pesek and I have been working closely together for the last several
months and have just heard from our colleague and collaborator, John
Burbidge. We thought that you would be interested in reading John's email
and current CV. (Apologies for that cross-posting that occurs.)

By the way, Burna Dunn and I will spend a couple of days with John and Bruce
in their home on Decatur Island, Washington in a couple of weeks. Search for
Decatur Island, Washington on Google Earth and you will have the mind
bending experience of zooming in on John's and Bruce's home turf, just off
the coast at Anacortes, Washington.

The email is pasted below and the CV is attached as an rtf (rich text
format) that will open in a word processing program.

Subject: A Special Request

Dear Betty,

For the last few years, I have divided my time among several long-term
writing projects, maintenance and caretaking for other island residents, and
volunteering as the secretary of our local community association. As much as
I value each of these, they do not, unfortunately, provide me with
sufficient income, so I am looking for part-time editing and writing work.
[I hope that others in our network might suggest] possible clients and/or
provide referrals.

[You'll recall that] my editing experience ranges from copy editing
(grammar, style, consistency, etc.) to developmental editing (content,
design and structure of an entire project). Both types were involved in the
three books I have edited ‹ two on social change and a memoir. In addition,
I have edited post-graduate theses, book chapters, official reports, journal
articles, and a national newsletter that also involved substantial layout
and design work.

People with whom I have worked have appreciated my ability to bring form and
clarity to their writing, my attention to detail, and my capacity to work
with them to enhance their prose. My familiarity with both British and
American English usage, as well as a solid grounding in French and German,
add to these skills. I am attaching a brief professional biography and
selected endorsements.

If you are aware of individuals, organizations or businesses in need of
editing or writing work, I would be most grateful if you¹d let me know. A
person¹s name and contact information would be very helpful.

Thanks in anticipation,

John
