Dear Ones,

I'm happy to report that Fred is home after three days in the hospital from
adverse side effects of his drug. Thank goodness! He is so relieved to be in
his own bed, but this illness left him very weak. We got him a walker, and he
had to sit down and rest once between the car and the house. His back hurts
-- probably the cancer.

Our primary care doctor advised us to stop the chemo drug. He said, "We
don't want to kill him." We haven't been in touch with the oncologist who
prescribed it. He was out of his office today with health problems of his own. We
talked to another radiologist-oncologist who said he could shrink the tumor at
the base of Fred's neck to keep it from interfering with throat, shoulder,
spine functions, but the tumors in the abdomen can't be treated with radiation.

I called City of Hope this morning. They said they'd be happy to register
his as a patient, but Fred is so weak and tired I don't think he'll agree to go
down there. It's in Duarte, near Pasadena, about a three hour drive from here.

As far as all the information on the internet, this seems to be an especially
difficult-to-treat form of cancer.

So it comes down to a miracle, it seems. Fred has been the recipient of
those before, so I'm remembering that, in the midst of my fear and grief.

We so appreciate your love and support your prayers and good thoughts on our
behalf.

Love and blessins,
Jann
